Tips for Plumbing Renovations

Tips for Plumbing Renovations

Upgrading your house's plumbing system can both make living in your home more enjoyable and add value to your home. Putting in new pipes and fixtures, however, is not a small undertaking. If you're planning on making improvements to your home's plumbing, here are three tips that will ensure a seamless upgrade.

Consult a Plumber Early Oncontractor doing plumbing renovations

Don't wait until you actually need a plumber to call one. Contacting them early on in the renovation process can save you from looking at fixtures that won't work well with your home.

For instance, many homes that were built before 1980 have narrower pipes than the houses being built today. These narrower pipes don't deliver as much water to showerheads, and double-headed showerheads often don't work well in older homes because of this issue. Without talking with a plumber, it'll be difficult to know what considerations like this you should take into account.

It may seem silly to call a plumber as soon as you begin thinking about upgrading your home's pipes and fixtures. At Stahl Plumbing Heating & Air Conditioning, we'd prefer to have homeowners contact us sooner than later. If you have a house in Allegheny County, feel free to give us a call as soon as you first think about upgrading your plumbing system.

Get an Estimate Before Changing Features' Locations

When you contact a certified plumber, ask for an estimate on how much it would cost to move any features that you'd like to move. Knowing the cost of relocating a sink, tub or toilet will help you budget for the rest of your plumbing renovation.

Upgrade Pipes When Moving Features

If you decide to move features, such as a kitchen sink or bathroom shower, you'll need to reroute some of the pipes in your home. You upgrade the pipes that are being rerouted. Since these pipes have to be removed and reinstalled anyways, you're already paying for the labor that would be required to upgrade them. The material costs usually don't add too much to the total project price. Any pipes you upgrade will be less prone to leaks because they're newer.

Upgrading your home's plumbing isn't difficult, as long as you follow these tips. Talk with a plumber and invest in upgrading your pipes, and you should be pleased with how your project goes.
